IAB Tier 2 category competitive exclusions, expansion of contextual targeting, new custom political ad targeting, global currency support on the dashboard and reporting, and more!
Core Improvements
Competitive Exclusions
You can now set competitive exclusion targeting for IAB Tier 2 Categories on demand partners, campaigns, and demand tags. With Tier 2 Category targeting, you can be more granular than before. Previously, you could apply competitive exclusions based on tier 1 IAB Categories, which are much broader. For example, Sports is a tier 1 category that breaks out into over 40 tier 2 categories. You may want implement competitive exclusions on Swimming but allow Rodeo and Skiing ads to serve.
Contextual Targeting
You can now set contextual targeting on demand tags. To set contextual targeting on demand tags, select Custom Audiences and Partner Segments in User Segment Groups. Typing “IRIS” in the search will reveal activated contextual segments.
If segments are missing from this dropdown, ensure that they are active on the Partner Segments tab of the Targeting page.
Feature Additions
Political Targeting
While you can use IAB category targeting to target Law, Government, & Politics (tier 1) or Politics (tier 2) ads, political ads can sometimes slip through the cracks. SpringServe now uses proprietary technology to allow you to target creatives that we detect to be political based on the content of the video.
In the Inventory Quality section of a supply or demand tag’s Targeting tab, select Custom Political Ad Targeting. You can now check the types of ads allowed: political, not political, and unknown.
The Inventory Quality targeting icon will light up when a tag has custom political ad targeting; view this icon in the full view of supply and demand tag index tables.
If you are interested in political ad targeting, please talk to your account manager.
Privacy Targeting
Targeting on privacy attributes such as DNT, LMT, US privacy, GDPR, and GDPR consent is now available to all SpringServe clients. Please see our wiki for more details.
UI/UX Improvements
Header Bidding
We continue to expand support for header bidding demand by adding adapters for the following platforms:
- Glewed
- VGI CTV
- Trust
- the ViewPoint
The LKQD adapter has now been renamed to Legacy VGI CTV in the dropdown.
Miscellaneous Updates
We have added Bid Floor to the Open Market tab of External Bidders. This addition allows you to have a better understanding of potential revenue on a supply tag from a given bidder’s open market demand.
You can now enable supply partners to return the SSB bid price in supply tags’ VAST extensions. If you are interested in this feature, please talk to your account manager
Reporting Updates
Global Currency Dashboard & Reporting
If your account is enabled for multi-currency support, you can now set the currency on the dashboard and in reporting. SpringServe calculates the converted financial metrics using the daily exchange rate that is refreshed at midnight UTC.
Account Activity Dashboard
Select from over 20 global currencies in the dropdown menu at the upper right hand corner of the page to update financial metrics. In the example below, Revenue and RPM metric cards are displayed in euros, as is the Financials graph.
Revenue and RPM in the Top 10 Supply and Demand tables at the bottom of the page also update.
Reporting
In Ad Hoc reports, select the currency in the dropdown and the returned report includes the 3-letter symbol in the metric names in the headers and the results are formatted with selected currency symbol.
The downloaded csv includes the 3-letter symbol in the metric names to avoid any confusion.
You can also run scheduled reports and create reporting templates in global currencies by selecting the currency in the dropdown.
Reporting API
To run a report using the API in a global currency, include the currency parameter and pass the capital 3-letter symbol. You do not need to make updates to the names of financial metrics. The returned report will append the 3-letter code to financial metric names. For example, to run a revenue report in euros, include the following parameters in the API request:
"currency": "EUR" , "metrics": ["revenue"]
The response will appear as follows:
[ { "revenue_eur": 4574.28675 } ]
Reach & Frequency Reporting
Previously in beta, Reach and Frequency Reporting is now available to all SpringServe clients. With this reporting feature, you can run reports for analysis of total unique users and how frequently they have viewed impressions. Note that these reports are very large and you should expect to wait for reports to finish running.
For more information about Reach and Frequency reports, please see our wiki.
Advertiser Domain & Content Report Restrictions
In order for our reporting to run optimally, we must restrict the size of our tables. Therefore, we now consolidate hourly data after 7 days for advertiser domain and content reports; daily UTC data is available after this period. Scheduled reports that do not meet these time parameter requirements will fail to run.
This update is necessary for SpringServe to continue to offer extensive reporting to our clients. We thank you for your understanding.
