In our most recent release we have added multiple account views and demand tag flight dates to SpringServe. We have also made improvements to reporting data and auto-optimization.
Feature Additions
Multiple Account Views
SpringServe has added the capability for users to have access to multiple account views from a single login. This update eliminates the need to log out and log back in again under a different username for all your SpringServe accounts.
Switching Views
In the past, an email address could only be linked to a single account in SpringServe. This limitation led to some creative solutions, like creating aliases for pre-existing SpringServe users so they could have multiple accounts. In our most recent release, we have added the capability to have multiple account views for a single username. To the left of the search bar in SpringServe you will see a dropdown list of your accounts. Switching accounts is as easy as selecting the account you want to view. No more logging out and logging back in!
If you have multiple usernames in SpringServe, we recommend that you reach out to your partners and ask them to create a new client account for your valid email address. You will receive an email alerting you that you’ve been added, and the account will appear in your dropdown list.
Creating Users
Creating users is now done by a slightly different process than before. Go to Users under the Settings menu. Click +User and you will be taken to a New User page. Here, you can enter the Username, and Type. If the type is either an Admin or Ad-Ops, the user can be an Account Contact and receive the daily Traffic Quality reports from us. If the type is Client, a dropdown list containing your Supply Parters will appear, and you can select which Partner(s) the new user may see.
Note that the username must be a valid email address, as they will receive an email with a link to set their password and name. This link is valid for 24 hours. If the user does not activate the link within this amount of time, they can go to video.springserve.com and click “forgot your password?” to have a new email sent to them.
If the user already has a SpringServe account, they will receive an email alerting them that they have been added to your account and your company name will be added to their account views dropdown menu.
Demand Tag Flight Dates
In the Targeting tab of a Demand Tag, you can now set flight dates for your campaigns. Select Enabled in the Flight Dates field, and a calendar will appear where you can select the flight dates for your campaign.
The date range is inclusive; after the end date the demand tag will no longer accept requests from supply tags.
Reporting Improvements and Additions
We have added client user access to Moat quality data, as well as both gross and net financial figures in the main reporting page.
Moat Quality Report Data for Client Users
SpringServe’s integration with Moat has allowed users to optimize against bot traffic. Admin and Ad-ops users who are designated as Account Contacts receive a daily quality report based on Moat data. You can also run reports for custom date ranges and filters in the Traffic Quality reporting center. With our latest release, client users are now able to access the Traffic Quality reporting center. Now your Supply Partners can be more proactive in sending you clean and monetizable inventory.
Main Reporting Page Changes
When you arrive at the SpringServe homepage, the report for today’s supply tags no longer auto loads. You no longer have to wait for this report to load before getting going in the platform. If you would like to see today’s supply tag report, simply hit run report and it will populate. This change was made after hearing feedback from SpringServe users.
When running a Supply Tag report, you will see that SpringServe now shows gross and net profit numbers. Previous profit and margin calculations were gross of fees. Net figures take into account third party fees such as SpotX I&A fees. You can set these fees by Demand Partner. Go to Settings –> Groups to create a Demand Partner and see your existing Demand Partners. When you click on the name of the Demand Partner, you can set the Fee Value and select what the fee is based on.
In the main Reporting table, you will see the new metrics for Gross and Net figures. Net figures are shown in the Lite view. Below is the Full view of a Supply Tag report:
Updated and new metrics are shown in the table below, along with their previous name (if applicable), calculation, and report view:
Please see the wiki for a full glossary of reporting terms and where they are found.
Archived Data
Cutting down on the amount of stored data allows us to keep costs down and reporting fast. To that end, we will no longer store country and player size data after 60 days. You will have access to historical data until Wednesday, June 15.
We have also reduced the number of days that domain data is stored in the database from 45 to 40.
If you foresee the need for archived domain, country, and/or player size data, make sure to run these reports for your supply and demand tags at the end of the month.
Optimization Improvements
SpringServe now offers the option to run Auto-Optimization based on demand tag Opportunity Fill. After hearing feedback from clients, we have also adjusted the default optimization parameters.
Opportunity Fill
SpringServe’s auto-optimization feature allows you flexibility in choosing the parameters of metric, lookback, and minimum request threshold. Selecting different metrics for different supply tags can be beneficial, since not all your supply partners want the same thing.
- Request Fill tends to favor publisher fill and may be best if your partner is using auto-optimization.
- Score favors your profitability.
- Response Time works well in a number of situations: short VPAID window, trafficking directly to a publisher’s player, trafficking to an adserver that is strict on response time.
- Opportunity Fill is a new metric that is calculated as imps/opportunities, and is similar to request fill in that it favors publisher fill. Selecting this metric will allow a demand tag that is low on the waterfall to climb to a higher priority if it fills the opportunities that it is given.
Default Optimization Parameters
Auto-optimization is automatically set to enabled when a new supply tag is created. When demand tags are added, they are added at priority 1. In many cases, clients were finding that auto-optimization was not taking effect due to the round robin nature of the AdServer call. Requests get split evenly (depending on targeting) between all demand tags that have the same priority. With all tags on priority 1, many demand tags would not meet the required minimum request threshold and remain at their current priority.
As of Wednesday, June 7, the default optimization parameters will be set to address this issue. New default optimization parameters will be Opportunity Fill, 1440 lookback minutes (24 hours), 3,000 minimum request threshold:
Previous default parameters were Request Fill, 90 minute lookback, and 3000 request minimum
The new default parameters allow demand tags to show how they would perform given equal opportunities, then optimizes based on Opportunity Fill. Note that as long as a demand tag reaches the minimum request threshold within the lookback window, it will be reprioritized. Therefore it is possible that auto-optimization can take effect before 24 hours has passed.
Remember that you can always turn off Optimization by clicking Disabled in the Optimization tab. You can also select custom parameters on the supply tag at any time.
VPAID Unit Additions
SpringServe has added support for VPAID 1.0. Now SpringServe is compatible with the following:
- VPAID 1.0, 2.0
- VAST 2.0, 3.0
With the addition of VPAID 1.0, SpringServe is now fully integrated with these third-party desktop players: Vidible, JW Player, Video JS, BeachFront, Google IMA, and Kaltura.
Macro Additions
For our expansion into Mobile Web support, SpringServe has added macro support for Device ID. The SpringServe macro to be implemented in the Demand Tag Endpoint URL is {{DEVICE_ID}}. In your Supply Tag Export tag, you will see the checkbox for Device ID under Other.
Clicking the checkbox will make the key did= appear in your export tag.
For a full list of supported macros, please see our wiki.
